This year, Ace Hotel marks its 20th anniversary as a cultural platform for people, cities and creative collaboration with a concert and dance party at the majestic cathedral to the arts, The Theatre at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles. On October 18 , The Theatre throws open its doors to a multi-lineup concert and dance party, featuring friends old and new, with performances headlined by legendary Japanese artist Ryuichi Sakamoto . A longtime collaborator in Ace history, Sakamoto was brought to Seattle in the early 90s for Tasty Shows — a concert production company co-owned by one of Ace's founders and one of the first promoters to bring bands like AIR and Portishead stateside.

Ryuichi Sakamoto is joined by longtime Ace friends serpentwithfeet , and Zola Jesus with an afterparty in The Theatre lobby featuring Seattle native DJ Four Color Zack and longtime Ace collaborator Eug . Born from a history of vibrant music shows and throwing raucous social gatherings in early spaces like Aro.Space, a beloved venue opened by an Ace founder in Seattle, music is the pulse that ties each Ace Hotel together and tethers them to each city through long-lasting relationships with musicians, artists, performers and DJs.

"When we started Ace Hotel as a platform for others 20 years ago, we looked to our friends, neighbors and the cities we love for inspiration, collaboration and as our guiding beacon. While change is a flag we embrace, those core things never did. We can't wait to celebrate the people and places who define who we are at The Theatre in October."

— Kelly Sawdon, Partner and Chief Brand Officer

In honor of the creative souls who have inspired us, proceeds from the one-night-only 20th anniversary party will benefit Urban Artworks, Sanctuary Art Center and Art Corps, three Seattle-based non-profit organizations supporting the growth of young artists and creative entrepreneurs.

Opened in 1999 in Seattle as a 28-room hotel created by friends for friends, the spirit of Ace Hotel endures as a central beacon two decades later, with a profound love for community gathering, compassionate hospitality and learning by where they have to go. Globally minded but hyper-local at heart, the first guests at Ace Hotel Seattle were from Japan, Germany and England, including musicians, magazine editors, directors and creative friends we were thrilled to host. Since then, Ace Hotel has thrown down roots in 10 cities, including Kyoto(opening in 2020) designed in partnership with acclaimed architect Kengo Kuma , and launched dedicated music and performance venues, restaurants and bars in partnership with James Beard Award-winning chefs and music festivals like Desert Gold in Palm Springs and Six of Saturns in New Orleans.

Ace Hotel's 20th Anniversary Celebration is presented with support from Sora.

About Ryuichi Sakamoto
In the age of one-hit wonders and a constantly rotating cast of pop-stars there are but a few true artists that have both stood the test of time and continue to break new ground. Ryuichi Sakamoto is one of these rare gems. Ryuichi has a vast range of musical endeavors; from pioneering early electronic music in his first group; Yellow Magic Orchestra, to globally-inspired rock albums, classical compositions (including a massive opera), and over thirty scores. His catalogue even includes video game soundtracks, and mobile ringtones. Almost as expansive is his array of prestigious awards; an Academy Award, two Golden Globes, a Grammy, the Order of the Cavaleiro Admissão from the government of Brazil, and in July 2009, he was named an Officer of the coveted Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the government of France .

About serpentwithfeet
serpentwithfeet is an avant-garde vocalist and performance artist whose growing body of work is rooted in dueling obsessions with the ephemeral and the everlasting – key components of his artistic journey from a childhood stint as a choirboy in Baltimore through his time at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where he studied vocal performance. His debut full-length album soil is a return to the sensibilities and wide-eyed curiosity of his musical youth before symmetry and sterile soundscapes ruled the roost.

About Zola Jesus
For over a decade, Nika Roza Danilova has been recording music as Zola Jesus. As a classically trained opera singer with a penchant for noisy, avant-garde sounds, she launched her career with a series of lo-fi releases that pitted her soaring vocals against harsh industrial clatter and jittery synths. The signature Zola Jesus sound became more hi-fi as she began to explore her own skewed vision of pop music on releases like Stridulum, Valusia, Conatus and her most recent album Okovi.
